My entire family absolutely loved this book. As a homeschooling family that prioritizes outdoor time, my kids immediately saw themselves in Claire and Finley, which made the story even more engaging for them. I also loved the relationship between the sisters. This book highlights a strong, supportive bond and a healthy family dynamic. It was heartwarming and something I value seeing reflected in my children’s reading. I also really appreciate how the author wove map skills and practical, real-life skills into the story so naturally. My kids were learning as they read without even realizing it. It never felt like a lesson, just part of the adventure. The story kept them hooked from beginning to end, and they were genuinely invested in whether the characters would make it home and save their friend. When we finished, the first question they asked was if there were more books in the series! This was an entertaining, heartwarming and thoughtful read. We loved it and highly recommend!

Mom or 2
Full of unexpected adventures, Into the Field is a wonderful book for all children, whether they are nature-lovers or are tied to the tablet. I especially recommend it for children who enjoy stories in which the characters travel to another world, such as The Magic Treehouse, The Wizard of Oz and The Chronicles of Narnia. What I loved about this book: – The two main characters do not complain about the mom’s boundaries for screen time. In fact, they talk about how much they enjoy being outside. – The siblings get along with each other (despite some gentle teasing). They are not rude to each other. – Embedded in the story are basic outdoor survival skills, such as using the sun to tell time, orienteering, making a fire, and not drinking unpurified water. – This book has four things that I always appreciate—literary allusion, fun similes, strong vocabulary, and varied sentence types.

"Into the Field" is a charming and thoughtful adventure that pulls you in right away. The story blends imagination, nature, and real-life skills in such a natural, engaging way. I loved how the characters have to work together, problem-solve, and rely on what they already know, not being brave, but teamwork and awareness of the world around them. The pacing is perfect for young readers, (I have two boys, 7 and 10) with short chapters that make it great for independent reading or reading aloud. The illustrations add so much heart to the story, and the outdoor elements are woven in seamlessly without ever feeling like a lesson. As a parent, I really appreciated how the book encourages curiosity, confidence, and respect for nature. It’s a wonderful choice for kids who love adventure, or for those who could use a little nudge to explore and think creatively. A fantastic start to what I hope becomes a series.
